Biography

Christopher J. Maurer is a founding partner with SLG Family Law with over two decades of experience in all aspects of divorce and family law. Having successfully handled and resolved thousands of domestic relations cases, Christopher is an experienced family law attorney who zealously advocates for his clients and approaches each case with a mind toward resolving the issues to the client’s satisfaction, whether that is through litigation and trial or through negotiation and settlement.

As a trained Guardian ad Litem, Christopher has been appointed by judges to investigate contested custody cases, to be “the eyes and ears of the court”, and to give guidance and recommendations to the court as to what is in the best interest of the children.

As a trained and certified Mediator, Christopher has been appointed by the courts and retained by private parties to act as a neutral third party to facilitate settlement agreements between parties to divorce and parenting disputes.

Christopher handles cases in DuPage County, Cook County, Kane County, and other counties in the Greater Chicagoland Area. He has focused his practice in the area of family law, including divorce issues (contested and uncontested divorces, complex financial divorces), parentage cases, preparation of prenuptial agreements and postnuptial agreements, custody disputes, establishing visitation or parenting schedules, child support calculation and maintenance determination, grandparent rights, relocation disputes regarding removing children from Illinois, and enforcement or modification of court orders.

Christopher also develops estate plans for his clients, including living trusts, wills, and powers of attorney, to make sure their assets will be used for their benefit during their lifetime in the event of disability, and that they will be distributed to their chosen beneficiaries with as few court-related administrative headaches as possible.

Christopher has authored and edited numerous legal articles on family law topics and has conducted legal education programs and seminars for other family law attorneys.

Christopher is an active member of the DuPage Bar Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the DuPage Bar Foundation, and a Board Member and past Editor in Chief of the DuPage Brief, a scholarly legal magazine published and circulated to members of the DuPage Bar. Chris earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University of Chicago’s College of Law in 1997, where he was an active member of the College’s International Law Program and Organization.
